Meet Cindy, Labor and Postpartum Doula in Northern Virginia

Where did you grow up? I grew up in Beverly, MA, north of Boston along the coast. I absolutely love all the amenities New England has to offer. We lived only a few minutes from the North Shore beaches, which is where I spent a lot of my childhood. We also skied, fished, biked and ate a lot of fresh seafood like crabs, lobster and fried oysters.

 

What is your favorite part of Virginia?

My favorite part of Virginia is that we have the best of all worlds - we have city life nearby in Washington D.C. and we have country escapes in the west. I am always amazed at the amount of activities available to us - skiing, Virginia wine country, farms, pick your own, camping and hiking. It’s a great place to raise kids!

Chocolate with extra chocolate on top!

 

What is your favorite part about being a mother?

My favorite part about being a mother is watching my children grow into their own. They each have their own interests and desires in life and supporting their personal growth is so rewarding. For example, we were recently in a store where there was a display keyboard, my two older kids started proudly playing a duet in front of everyone. They said it was scary but they enjoyed the attention. There’s always an opportunity to learn from new experiences.

 

Why did you choose to be a postpartum doula?

I chose to be a doula because I realized the hardships women and their families face in labor and postpartum when I had my own three children. We do not have family in the area and I often felt the need for additional support. I’m lucky to have an amazing husband and life-long friends in my corner continuously supporting and loving on our family. I want to provide that same level of comfort and support to expectant families.

 

Who has inspired you in your life?

I find inspiration in everyone I meet. We all have different skills and abilities, all we can do is learn from others and self-reflect. I choose to surround myself with positive influences and remove the negative karma in order to grow as a person.

 

What is your favorite thing to do in your spare time?

In my spare time I enjoy a good run/workout, spending time with great friends laughing and drinking wine, organizing stuff, sleeping in, walking, hiking, or biking with my husband and kids, and definitely eating extra chocolate.

 

Yoga or Pilates?

Both! I love the calming meditative side of yoga and the stretching and strengthening of pilates.
