Carrie, Postpartum Doula & Newborn Care Instructor in Woodbridge, Va
Carrie is a proud wife and mother of 3 children (2 earthside angels, 1 heavenly angel). She was born at the famous “pink hospital” Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii, however most of her family resides in Natchitoches, Louisiana . Like most army children she has seen lots of places and loves to embrace other cultures and learn more about their practices. She has worked in military healthcare for 10 years as a medical assistant in the Women’s Health Clinic first at Fort Riley, Kansas and here at Fort Belvoir, Virginia.
Recently she transferred to the Emergency Room because it allowed a more flexible schedule for her most treasured role as a doula. She decided to become a doula after moving to Virginia in 2016, she missed being that “support person” which she often did in Kansas because of high rate of deployments and spouses being alone. She believes that birth is such a frightening yet empowering experience that no one should be alone so she often jumped at the chance to be at any birthing person’s side. Her hope is that all mothers realize that they deserve a doula because childbirth is hard work and who doesn’t want a little help with such a big job? She has a very special place in her heart for VBAC’s being that she had a cesarean with her daughter and then a successful VBAC with her son. Carrie is CHI trained as a Centering pregnancy facilitator and newborn care instructor. Carrie completed her DONA birth doula training in September of 2017. Carrie also enjoys supporting new parents and their baby or babies as they figure out life and get the rest and support they need.
Carrie’s long term goal is to return to nursing school and eventually become a Certified Nurse Midwife. When she isn't at the hospital or supporting a birth, she enjoys cooking and/or baking her specialty being Cheesecake. She currently resides in Woodbridge, VA with her husband Christopher and their children Cherish and Carter.
